ABOUT THE LEGACY PARTNERS

Southside District, Birmingham’s vibrant cultural quarter, is a dynamic area known for its rich arts and entertainment scene. As a city business improvement district (BID), Southside District focuses on creating a safer, more attractive environment for residents, visitors, and businesses.

Birmingham Hippodrome is on a mission to provide that “goosebumps” feeling through memorable and extraordinary experiences. The Hippodrome’s vision is for “a distinctive, world-class Birmingham cultural scene with the Hippodrome at its heart”. As one of the biggest providers of arts and culture in the city, the Hippodrome provides over a million people a year with those same goosebumps moments through on and off stage programmes and performances.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The display will feature colourful LED lights that provide a stunning visual effect without strobe lighting effects, with lights moving in sequence at times to create shapes and magical effects across the LED lighting roof. There will be no soundtrack or sound effects, allowing for a quiet and peaceful atmosphere to enjoy the display and effects. The installation is positioned around 6 metres high above the street visible from distance, to ensure clear visibility, allowing everyone to safely enjoy the display and its transformative effect on the area.

The display will be positioned central to the road carriageway, we advise those enjoying the display to be mindful of passing vehicles on the road, particularly if hoping to capture photos beneath the stars and lighting effects.

SUSTAINABILITY INFORMATION

The Roof of Stars is a long-term installation that prioritises sustainability, recognising that the project affects the environment. The light artwork is made possible using state-of-the-art energy-efficient LED lighting, which reduces energy consumption in comparison to other fixtures while minimising impact. The materials used in the installation have been chosen for durability, ensuring the installation’s longevity while limiting waste. Timers and sensors will control lighting durations, reducing unnecessary energy use and light pollution during daylight hours.
