Birmingham Light Festival is a City Curator Project, a role fully funded by Colmore BID. It is being made possible with thanks to the full support of all five city-centre BIDs. OPUS are the producers of Birmingham Light Festival.
Alex Nicholson-Evans
⏺︎ CITY CURATOR &
FESTIVAL DIRECTOR
Alex is Birmingham City Centre's first 'City Curator'. A brand-new role funded by Colmore BID and supported by all five City Centre BIDs. She is also the Founder & Director of Living For The Weekend, the company behind city-wide festivals such as Birmingham Cocktail Weekend and Birmingham Restaurant Festival.
Alex was formerly the Commercial Director at Birmingham Museums, she is a passionate non-executive director and is also a judge for awards such as the West Midlands Tourism Awards.
Rebecca Phillips
⏺︎ CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Bex is the Senior Producer at OPUS and has taken a lead role in designing and delivering key visual and public art projects over the past two years, driven by her passion for placemaking through transforming public spaces with culture, light and art.
She has forged a career in producing large scale, multi-disciplinary events - specifically for outdoor and public places – with a focus on access for all and designing spaces and programmes with the audience experience at its core.
Caroline Davis
⏺︎ EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
Caroline is Founder and Managing Director of OPUS, an award winning female-led producing house specialising in devising, commissioning and managing memorable, creative experiences and events outdoors and in the public realm. Caroline takes a collaborative, proactive and inclusive approach to interventions, bringing together a curatorial eye with strong skills in design, production and financial management.
Caroline traditionally specialises in producing site specific and outdoor work including Motionhouse’s Wondrous Stories, the Commonwealth Games Festival Sites, bringing joy and delight to audiences.
Helen Tytherleigh
⏺︎ PRODUCTION MANAGER
Helen is a Production Manager with a passion for illuminating experiences. She has been part of the production team for the UK’s biggest annual light festival, Light Night Leeds, since 2017 and shaped new festival Light Night Worcester for 5 years. Helen is a regular freelancer with the OPUS team, first working alongside them at the Commonwealth Games delivering Neighbourhood Festival Sites then working directly with them on many other events including Birmingham Light Festival.
Alyx Gregory-Phillips
⏺︎ PRODUCTION COORDINATOR
Alyx is the Event Coordinator at OPUS with a background shaped through diverse national event management and production roles. She began a career working on programmes and initiatives that influenced neighbourhoods through the restorative power of events, and later studied at University under Caroline and Rebecca. Her previous work includes Event Management of a Birmingham independent music venue, various event and production roles within arts and music festivals, and in Sports Presentation and Floor Management for the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Felicity Blades
⏺︎ MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS
Felicity is the Marketing Manager for Colmore BID, the Business Improvement District driving marketing and engagement initiatives in Birmingham’s commercial core. She oversees marketing activities and strategies, supporting key projects like Birmingham Light Festival. Felicity also leads the Leisure & Hospitality working group, promoting Colmore’s vibrant venues. Outside of Colmore BID, she is an artist and runs Drink & Draw, a creative events business. She is passionate about making art accessible in fun ways, celebrating Birmingham’s thriving culinary scene, and promoting the city’s rich cultural diversity.
Heather Woodhouse

Heather is Communications Manager for Colmore BID, the Business Improvement District delivering projects and services to Birmingham's commercial heart. Heather specalises in the delivery of PR, communications and social media - combining her corporate expertise with her ability to make meaningful longstanding relationships with the media, key stakeholders and influencers. With a passion for cultural activation, events and relationship building, Heather works in collaboration with the team to promote Birmingham Light Festival to promote and deliver the festival.

Producing House
OPUS stands for Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces and is run by Executive Producer and Managing Director, Caroline Davis. OPUS are a female-led, multidisciplinary arts and events producing house based in Birmingham but working nationally to offer event design, concept and management and creative and strategic producing services. Focusing on large-scale, multi-stakeholder, combined arts events and festivals, OPUS create collaborative cultural and artistic interventions in place-based settings and non-traditional performance spaces, that connect people to each other and the space they are in. OPUS have a track record of delivery with arts, sport and leisure, government and corporate / private sector clients, in everything from civic spaces, shopping centres and train stations, to greenfield and woodland sites - even on public transport.
